About the Student Assistants
Trudy W. Kwok
Trudy will graduate from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Computer Science in May 2025. She completed her Associate's degree at St. Petersburg College. In her leisure time, she likes to spend time with her family and hangout with her friends. Her contribution to the project includes creating the archive website and entering all proverbs from the spreadsheets to the website.
Cindy Arias
Cindy Arias, a Dominican-American from the Bronx, is currently finishing her Masters degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Florida International University. She is a proud alumna of CUNY–York College (2017), where she earned her degree in History working with Prof. George White and Prof. Kiran C. Jayaram. She also works as the Administrative Assistant for the Environmental Law Program at the University of Miami School of Law. She maintains her interest in Haitian Creole by serving as a contributor for the Haitian Creole course on Duolingo. In her leisure time, Cindy likes to write short stories and hang out with her friends. At York College, Cindy worked for months entering and reviewing the library card information into a spreadsheet.
Edvanie Jayaram
Eva will graduate from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Health Sciences in December 2024, and in the future, she wants to pursue training in nursing and reproductive health. She currently works as a medical assistant at the Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay. She completed her Associate's degree at CUNY–Queensborough Community College. When not working or studying, she cares for her wonderful twin boys. Her contribution to the project included entering proverbs into the spreadsheet.
Rachel Denney
Rachel Denney received her doctorate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Kansas in 2023. Her dissertation is entitled, INGOs and the State: A Study of Girls’ Education in Haiti, Guatemala, and Jamaica. Her research focuses on the relationship between developing state governments and non-governmental organizations in Central America and the Caribbean. From Fall 2013-Spring 2015, Rachel was a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellow, studying Haitian Creole. Rachel has a professional background in the international non-profit sector. She is currently living with her family in Kansas City and working in the private sector. During her time as a graduate student at KU, Rachel worked with Prof. Jayaram and entered proverbs into the spreadsheet.
